INTRODUCTION
A famous quote by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has words of wisdom. It says, “You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the States of its women”. The prosperity of a nation mostly depends upon its women.
India is a country with much diversity in terms of religion, culture and customs. The role of women in all the sections of society is mostly limited to household and domestic matters. The majority of women workers in India are working in unorganized sectors. They are working in these sectors for low wages mainly due to their low level skills, illiteracy besides the availability of labour in surplus. For these reasons, they face a high level of exploitation in work place. The socio-economic status of women workers is greatly influenced by the nature of the industrial sector in which most of them are working.
