Synthesis, characterization and Magnetic Properties of Ni-Mg-Zn-Co ferrites
Author Name : S. B. Patil
ABSTRACT Synthesis of Ni-Mg-Zn-Co ferrites with general formula Ni0.5-xMgx-0.01Zn0.5Co0.01Fe2O4 where x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 were prepared by the ceramic method. The X-ray diffraction of the compositions confirm the formation of single-phase cubic spinal. The lattice parameter “a” increases with Zn content. Bond lengths RA and RB increases linearly with Zn contents. Site radii rA and rB increases with Zn. It can be observed that site radii rA and rB also increase linearly with composition x. The site radius rB is greater than rA The porosity lies in the range of 13 to 20% for the present samples. The magnetic moment μB and saturation magnetization (4πMs) go on decreasing with content of Mg. The value of Mr/Ms also shows a decreasing tend with content of Mg(x). Magnetization in ferrites results from the distribution and alignment of magnetic ions on the tetrahedral and octahedral cation sites. initial permeability increased gradually with temperature and then it drops sharply to zero near Curie temperature. The sharp decrease near Curie temperature suggests single phase formation of ferrites.
