The Influence of Yogic Exercises Upon Stress Disorders

ABSTRACT
This paper deals with relationship of Yogic exercises with the most common phenomena of modern life which is called stress. Stress refers to the consequence of the failure of an organism to respond adequately to mental, emotional or physical demands, weather actual or imagined. Scientific research has confirmed the crucial role stress can play in causing and aggravating different disorders such as anxiety, depression, aggression, asthma, migraine and insomnia etc. in human being. Among various tried methods Yoga has emerged as the most beneficial remedy to stress related disorders. Yoga as a discipline, developed in India thousands of years ago for treating diseases but it has started gaining recognition in the modern medical field as a special line of treatment only over the last two decades. It has proved a boon to sickness. Different aspects of Yoga help the individual in self restrain and self discipline. Yoga with all its qualities and characteristics has proved to be beneficial in the treatment of physical as well as mental disorders. A number of studies have provided extensive data about the curative process of yoga in the field of stress disorders. It was found that yogic practices have provided a lasting and permanent relief in the case of bronchial asthma, hypertension, anxiety, depression, and migraine and tension headache.
