The Patronage of Cochin Royal Family to Vedic Studies
Author Name : Dr. V. P. Udayakumar
The rulers of Cochin Royal family otherwise known as Perumpadappu Svaroopam were the descendents of Kulasekharas of Mahodayapura who ruled Kerala from AD 800 to AD 1102[i]. It`s only after the arrival of the Portuguese, the Cochin Royal family got a significant position in the political scenario of Kerala.
The Cochin Royal family made their capital at Chitrakooda near to Vanneri of Perumpadapu Village up to the end of 13th Century AD. But, when the Zamorin attacked Valluvanad, the Perumpadappu Swaroopam left Vanneri and made Mahodayapura their capital in the second half of the 13th Century A.D.
