Theoretical Overview on Challenges of Manned Mission to Mars

ABSTRACT The next frontier that space explorers will investigate to show how far beyond low-Earth orbit human presence extends is Mars. The trip to Mars is extremely difficult since there is many obstacles to overcome from the start of the mission until its completion. Mars is an attractive target for astrobiology, and a human expedition would offer a chance to gather vast volumes of scientific data. However, the additional danger cannot be justified by exploration alone. Rather, a human goal is driven by three factors: exploration, education, and economy. There is a special chance that a human mission may encourage the next generation of youth to pursue important careers in science and engineering. Given that Earth-like environmental conditions and a lengthy interplanetary trip are the most important factors for planetary exploration when compared to other Solar System bodies, Mars missions can be considered as a logical next step in space research. However, because these missions demand exceptionally high financial and technological resources, they also require global collaboration and meticulous planning.The primary challenges encompass technical, physiological, and psychological aspects, including the development of advanced propulsion systems, life support, radiation protection, and the longduration impact on human health and behaviour. Technological advancements are crucial in ensuring safe travel, landing, and habitation on Mars. The psychological effects of isolation and confinement during the prolonged journey also present significant concerns. On the other hand, the potential benefits of a successful mission are substantial. Scientifically, it promises unprecedented insights into the Martian environment, geology, and potential for past or present life. Economically, it could spur innovation and growth in various sectors, including aerospace, engineering, and material sciences.
