Trends in Cognitive Distortion Among Young Adults

ABSTRACT

Cognitive distortions are negative or irrational patterns of thinking. These negative thought patterns can play a role in diminishing individualsmotivation, lowering your self-esteem, and contributing to problems like anxiety, depression, and substance use (Hartney, 2023). Cognitive distortion has been identified to play an important role in maintaining emotional disorders. Therefore, a study was undertaken to trends of Cognitive Distortion among young adults. A total of 133 male and female young adults were selected as a sample for research through the population proportion sampling method from the colleges of community science of the G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. To achieve the research objective (Mishra &Gir, 2013 and Mishra &Gir, 2014), a tool, namely the Cognitive Distortion Scale (CDC-SDSD) developed by Aron Beck (1967). Suitable statistical methods, i.e., frequency and percentage were applied to the collected data to derive the research results(Mishra &Gir, 2013 and Mishra &Gir, 2014).
