Understanding Different Perspectives of Women from Rajasthani Paintings

ABSTRACT Women’s whose portrayal follows the similar genre of depiction, who is shown in a very sensuous ways, as a progenitorof fertility. Their depiction is constrained to a very limited space,Prevalence of purdah might be one of the reason behind it. There were individual portrayal of kings, princes, the activities of courts, hunting of animals, leisure activities of kings were openly delineatedin the Rajasthani paintings and this type ofindividual identity of women is lacking, even women’s names were not used openly they were referred through numbers in several paintings. We were unable to imagine that what kind of life women’s were living ,what weretheir interests, how the zenanawomenspent there time, and what were their roles in the political manoeuvrings, all these questions are solved with the advancement of this art with the influence of Jain and Mughal styles, women’s were started depicting, not only infeminine version butalso they were shown doing various activitieslike singing ,dancing, playing various instruments, indulged in various amusements activities, hunting, having bows and arrows with themselves which shows a contrary version of a purdah women
