Understanding Gender as Social Category

ABSTRACT

Gender is not only women’s issue rather it’s everyone’s issue. Both women and men are affected by it. We are socialised and tuned to view the world into binary. This takes place with the passage of socially stock of knowledge from one generation to another. The following paper attempts to make a theoretical understanding of Gender as a social category. It also looks into the role of socialisation which leads to the construction of Gender. School as an agency of socialisation is also explored.
