Author Name : Dr. Mohammed Musbahu Ibrahim
ABSTRACT
Sustainable development became a natural successor of the United Nation’s millennium development goals’ program which was aimed at ensuring that by the turn of the millennium (year 2000) certain socio economic milestones could have been attained especially by and mostly developing countries. Specifically the objective was to eradicate poverty and hunger. To achieve universal primary education. To promote gender equality and to reduce child mortality.
Like most development programs whether national, regional or global the success of the MDG has been relative with varying results across the continents. Whatever limitations could have been recognized the sheer global consensus on the need to proceed from where the MDG stopped with a new successor program titled the sustainable development program is a confirmation that indeed there still exist some common and shared thread which resonates that the world’s challenges can only be attenuated through global movement. Sustainable development program harps very highly on the need to establish a balance such that exploring the nature’s resources to meet the needs of the inhabitants of the universe must be made in such a manner that the ecosystem must be preserved for generations yet unborn.
