"Unlocking Healing Potential: Phytochemical Analysis and Anti-DiabeticActivity of Withania somnifera Root and Zingiber officinale Rhizome Extracts"
Author Name : Sanjay Kumar Verma, Amit Sharma, Mukesh Chandra Sharma
ABSTRACT This study explores the therapeutic potential of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) root and Zingiber officinale (Ginger) rhizome extracts through comprehensive phytochemical analysis and assessment of their anti-diabetic activity. With the increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus, there is a growing need for alternative and complementary treatments that are not only effective but also possess minimal side effects. Withania somnifera and Zingiber officinale have been traditionally used in various traditional medicinal systems for their purported health benefits. The phytochemical analysis involved the identification and quantification of bioactive compounds present in the extracts using advanced analytical techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results revealed a rich composition of bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and polyphenols, known for their potential therapeutic effects. The anti-diabetic activity of Withania somnifera and Zingiber officinale extracts was assessed throughin vitro and in vivo experiments. In vitro studies involved the evaluation of the extracts' impact on glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity in cultured cells, while in vivo experiments were conducted on diabetic animal models to assess the extracts efficacy in lowering blood glucose levels and improving overall metabolic parameters
