Validation of ISCST-3 Dust Dispersion Model for the dust emission from an Ash Bund of Thermal Power Plant – A Case Study
Author Name : Prashil Shukla, Ashish Shukla, Dr. V.P. Thergaonkar
ABSTRACT A review of suitability of ISCST-3 model available to predict dust emitted from an ash bund of thermal power plant is studied for the selected coal based thermal power plant. It is evident from process of a thermal power plant that flue gases and ash are the combustion products of coal during thermal power generation. Ash is classified in to bottom and fly ash. Percentagewise bottom ash is 20%of coal consumed and later is 80%. Present system of disposal of bottom ash is to carry its 15-20% slurry in water to a designated site called “Ash Bund”. Of late, high density slurry system has been introduced to reduce water consumption during transportation of bottom ash. In this system 70-80% slurry in dough form is pumped to ash pond. Hence dust emission from the ash pond become a major source of fugitive emission and contribute to overall incremental fugitive dust emission from a thermal power plant. This dust emission is modelled by ISCST-3 model to predict incremental ground level concentration prior to start of operations for regulatory purposes. This study is conducted to substantiate ISCST-3 dust dispersion model.
